Description
Thurston's Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 18th century and further changes in the 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building features a two-bay east-west range that includes a central chimney stack from the 17th century. Attached to the southwest is a larger 18th-century range that runs north-south and has one axial chimney stack facing west. The rear range is a single storey with attics, while the main range has two storeys with attics.
The entrance includes a half-glazed door set in a Tudor Revival porch made of plastered brickwork from the 19th century. On the ground floor, there is an early 20th-century sash window with 16 lights, and on the first floor, an early 19th-century sash window with 12 lights. The rear range features chamfered transverse beams with lamb's tongue stops and plain joists, mostly of horizontal section, although some replaced joists are of vertical section. The interior of the larger range was not accessible during the survey.
