Description
Numbers 5 and 6, Levitt's Cottages, are a pair of attached cottages dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of clay lump and are plastered, with thatched roofs. The cottages are aligned approximately northeast to southwest and have a northwest aspect. Each cottage is one room deep, with two rooms on each floor and a central chimney stack.
At the rear, there is a single-storey ancillary building with a slate roof, forming a T-plan. The cottages are single-storey with attics and feature two plain boarded doors set in simple slated gabled porches. There are two early 20th-century wooden casement windows, one 19th-century cast iron casement window with 12 lights, and two slated lean-to dormers with early 20th-century wooden casement windows. The roofs are half-hipped at both ends.
On the northeast elevation, there is one 19th-century cast iron casement window with 24 lights on each floor. The southwest elevation has one cast iron window on the first floor and one early 20th-century wooden casement window on the ground floor. These cottages are an unusually unaltered example of their type, with few others surviving in comparable condition.
