Description

TL 73 NW TOPPESFIELD GAINSFORD END 3/12 Quy's Cottage GV II

Small house, late C16/early C17, altered in C19 and C20. Timber framed, weatherboarded and plastered, roof thatched. 4 bays aligned N-S, with axial chimney stack one bay from S end and external chimney stack on N end. Aspect E. C20 single-storey flat-roofed extension to SW, linking cottage with small ancillary building. Single-storey with attics. Plain boarded door, 2 late C18 double-hung sash windows, 2 C20 casement windows. One eyebrow dormer and one gabled dormer, each with an C18 window of one fixed light and one wrought iron casement. The interior has heavy studding, arched braces from original corner posts, axial beams, exposed plain joists of horizontal section. Central ground- floor partition stripped to the studding.
