Description

Hurrell’s Farmhouse is an early 17th-century house, altered in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed, with plaster infill and a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The house has four bays aligned north-south, facing west, and features an axial chimney stack in the second bay from the south end, characteristic of a lobby-entrance house plan. There is an 18th or 19th century extension to the south, with its own end chimney stack, and a lean-to addition to the rear of this extension. A single-storey extension was added to the south in the 19th century, also with an end chimney stack. The house is single-storey with attics. The windows are primarily late 18th or early 19th century, comprising two 6-panel doors, three double-hung sash windows of 16 lights, one single-hung sash window of 12 lights, and two similar single-hung windows within gabled dormers. Inside, the house features chamfered beams, a mantel beam with lamb's tongue stops, face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates, and a clasped purlin roof.
