Description

This barn, located approximately 5 metres north of Sloman's Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century. It is timber framed, with a plastered and weatherboarded exterior, and features a thatched roof. The barn has five bays aligned roughly north-south, with a midstrey to the east. There are lean-to extensions with corrugated iron roofs on both sides of the midstrey. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. The main frame is made of hardwood, with joints that are jointed and pegged. The wallplates have face-halved and bladed scarfs, and the structure includes primary straight bracing and bolted hanging knees to the tiebeams. The roof is designed with clasped purlins.
