Description

Clevelands is a house located on Blackmore End Road in Wethersfield, dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with handmade red clay tiles. It consists of three bays aligned northwest to southeast, with a contemporary dairy at the western corner. There is a 19th-century extension with a slate roof to the southwest of the northwest bay, which connects the house to the dairy. The house has single-storey lean-to extensions on the southwest and northeast sides and stands two storeys tall.

On the southeast elevation, there are five 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor, along with a 20th-century door in the northeast extension. The original sprockets are visible below the eaves on both sides of the house. Inside, there are two wood-burning hearths made of 0.23 metre brickwork, both of which were originally plastered but have since been stripped. A blocked aperture for an oven in the rear hearth has been demolished. There is a chamfered axial beam over the front room, and the floor over the rear room has been rebuilt or is made of reused timber. The original roof features clasped purlins, and the dairy has a good brick floor that drains to the middle.
