Description

Hawkwood's is a house dating back to the 16th century, with later additions and alterations. It is timber-framed and plastered, with red plain tiled roofs. The house has central and external brick chimney stacks, the one on the right having an attached bake oven. The main range is two storeys and four bays, with a lower-level range to the right and a 20th-century gabled two-storey crosswing to the left. The window arrangement is 2:4:1, featuring mainly small-paned vertically sliding sash windows with horns in moulded surrounds. A 20th-century gabled brick porch is located to the left, and there is a four-panelled two-light door. The interior retains timber framing with jowled storey posts on both the ground and first floors, halved arched braces to the walls, heavily stop-chamfered bridging joists and top plates, and a crown post roof.
