Description
Wenham Hill is a house dating from the 16th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions. It is likely timber framed and plastered, topped with red plain tiled roofs. The house has an H-shaped plan and is notable for its four large external red brick chimney stacks, all of which are offset. There are two stacks on the left side, one at the front featuring three octagonal shafts with moulded capitals, bases, and bands, and a rear stack with two diagonal shafts and moulded capitals, which has likely been rebuilt. The central rear stack has three octagonal shafts with moulded bands, capitals, and bases, while the right return stack has four similar octagonal shafts.
The building is two storeys high with attics. The crosswing gables each have a small paned two-light attic window, and below these are hipped roofs of angled two-storey bays. The front has a window arrangement of 1:3:1 with small paned vertically sliding sashes, although there is no fourth first-floor window, and the bays consist of three lights. The central entrance features a reproduction plank and muntin door with a moulded surround. Additionally, there is a brick buttress supporting the front chimney stack on the left side and a single-storey front addition. The rear stack includes a gabled bake oven, a porch, and a 20th-century door situated between the stacks, along with a single-storey rear range. No internal inspection was conducted at the time of the re-survey.
