Description
The Old Rectory is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, featuring later alterations and additions, including Georgian and Victorian rear wings. The building has an exposed timber frame and red plain tiled roofs, with red brick chimney stacks on the left and rear right. It is two storeys tall and has a long layout, with a full-height porch on the left. The porch jetties out at the first floor and has a gable with a blocked mullion at the apex. There is a small-paned horizontal sliding sash window on the first floor and a recessed reproduction door, along with two light 20th-century casements on the return. To the left of the porch, there is a 20th-century single-storey extension. On the right side of the porch, the first floor features three small-paned horizontal sliding sashes, while the ground floor has three vari-light casements with angled heads. To the right, there is a 20th-century reproduction gabled timber-framed porch with a plank and muntin door.
Internally, although the frame is mainly intact, some features have been inserted from elsewhere, such as a moulded jowled storey post and a restored inglenook fireplace. Original features include inserted ceilings with stop-chamfered bridging joists and ceiling beams, jowled storey posts, segmental-headed doorways, and one arched brace to a tie beam, with the other cut away. There is also a fragment of an arched brace by the chimney stack and a stick staircase with a wreathed handrail, along with brick floors.
