Description
Four Sisters Farmhouse, now divided into two dwellings, dates largely to the late 16th century, with 20th-century renovations and extensions added in a matching style to the left. The farmhouse is timber-framed and rendered, with a plain tile roof and red brick stacks. It originally comprised a 3½-bay frame. The front garden elevation features a 20th-century extension on the left, which is of no particular interest. A later square porch, originally forming a lobby-entry, has been blocked, and the current entrance is at the rear. The ground floor has casement and French windows, while the upper floor has casement windows. Diamond-set ridge stacks are positioned on the left and right. A gabled staircase wing and a lower gabled wing are located at the rear, connected by a single-storey range, with a 20th-century entrance to the staircase wing. The interior retains some exposed framing, including chamfered jowled posts and studded walls. There is a relined inglenook with a timber bressummer, and a further blocked inglenook. A corner cupboard from the 18th century features a pilastered and keyed round arch, fielded panelling to the lower doors. The roof is a clasped purlin roof.
