Description
The Vatches is a house located on Barton Comberton Road, dating from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is plaster rendered and painted brick, topped with a tiled mansard roof that has a rebuilt grey brick ridge stack with three linked shafts. The original layout consists of a three-bay single range plan with a parlour wing on the right side.
The house has two storeys and displays three early 19th-century flush frame, twelve-pane hung sash windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century verandah with a lean-to slate roof, and the main entrance features a 19th-century panelled door situated opposite the stack.
To the left, there is an early 18th-century crosswing that has a brick ground stage, likely serving as a casing for the timber frame, and is topped with a rendered and tiled gabled roof. This section includes a three-brick band between the two storeys, one hung sash window similar to those above, and a sixteen-pane window on the ground floor. Additionally, there is a late 17th or 18th-century wing, possibly used as a kitchen, which is timber-framed and brick with a half-hipped tiled roof, two storeys high with an attic, and features three sliding sashes on the gable end.
