Description
The Manse is a house located on High Street in Guilden Morden, dating from the early 17th century and early 19th century. It features a timber frame with roughcast render and a brick plinth. The roof is hipped and slated, with side chimney stacks and an internal stack. The building has two storeys and a semi-basement.
The original 17th-century structure is at the rear and has a three-unit plan, sharing a roof with the early 19th-century parallel range at the front. The symmetrical facade has three bays, with a six-panelled door that includes a rectangular fanlight. The door is framed by a reeded architrave with corner bosses and a cornice canopy supported by shaped brackets. There are two ground floor and three first floor flush framed hung sash windows, with the outer windows having sixteen panes and the window above the door having twelve panes.
Inside, the interior was remodeled in the 19th century and features an open string staircase, exposed timber framing, and floor frames. A large 17th-century cooking hearth is located in the south room, accompanied by a fine clunch fireplace with a moulded and stopped four-centered arch in the first-floor room.
