Description

Manor Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed house dating from the early 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with roughcast rendering and a tiled roof, along with bargeboarding on the gable end of the crosswing, which has shaped pendants at the apexes. The house has an original internal red brick stack with four grouped shafts and a side stack on the east crosswing. It is designed as a double-ended hall-house, with an entry located in the hall range leading to a lobby. There is one window on each of the two storeys in the hall range. The crosswings are jettied and each contains two modern three-light casement windows on both the first and ground storeys.

In front of the house, there are two garden walls from the late 17th century, made of red brick with a plinth, gabled coping, and a sawtooth cornice. Inside, an inspection of the roof may reveal earlier origins of an open hall. A notable feature is a fine contemporary plaster ceiling in a ground floor room of the west crosswing, which has moulded ribs in a geometric pattern adorned with fleur-de-lis and roses, divided into two bays by a similarly decorated plaster main beam. Additionally, a first floor room retains an original clunch fireplace with a four-centred arch in a square head, with spandrels featuring cusped tracery. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site.
