Description
Beaconhead Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed building originally constructed as a 14th-century hall house with two crosswings. The structure is timber framed and clad in 18th-century red brick, topped with a red plain tile roof. The crosswings were originally jettied and gabled, but 18th-century alterations have underbuilt the jetty and introduced hipped roofs. The facade features a three-window range with 18th-century double-hung vertical sliding sashes that include glazing bars and are set beneath gauged brick arches. There is one hipped dormer and an 18th-century pediment doorcase adorned with a foliated frieze and moulded jowls.
The early 14th-century west wing contains a 16th-century crown post roof, while the central hall, dating from the late 14th century, has an early 16th-century inserted chimney stack with a cambered mantel beam and a late 16th-century inserted first floor. The original crown post roof remains intact, featuring two tall octagonal posts with chamfered bases and capitals. The east crosswing, also from the late 14th century, retains an original doorway, jowled storey posts, and a crown post roof.
