Description
TL 4843 ICKLETON DUXFORD ROAD (East side) 21/229 Abbey Farmhouse 22.11.67 GV II Farmhouse. Medieval, C13 core with C18 and C19 alterations and additions. Clunch rubble, timber-framed and plastered and brick. Plain tiled roofs forming an M profile gable in main range. Rectangular stack and two rear stacks. Two storeys and attics double pile plan an addition to an existing C13 building with rear gabled extensions. Symmetrical facade of three 'bays' with central flat roofed Tuscan portico, six-panelled door with side and over lights. Two ground floor and three first floor casement windows with transomes. Interior: Two flights of C17 balustered closed string staircase; stop-chamfered C17 ceiling beams. C19 and C20 details. C15 ogee-chamfered tie beam with mortices for wall posts and braces at first floor. C13 doorway described in 1949 now sealed. Large hearth with ingle nooks and niches partly relined, C17: other hearths sealed or demolished. Deep splays to window jambs and doors through original building.
