Description

This is a late 17th-century cottage located on West Wratting Road in Balsham. It was originally listed as the Post Office and Shop in 1967. The cottage is timber-framed with plaster rendering and has a tiled roof, originally thatched, now half-hipped. A ridge stack features two diagonally-set grouped shafts. The building retains a late 17th-century lobby-entry plan, with a 19th-century shop added to the room at the roadside end. It is a single-story building with an attic, and has two modern dormers. The front features three ground-floor horizontal sliding sash windows and a doorway leading to the lobby. The interior reveals exposed timber framing, some of which has been inserted, along with abutting hearths. These include an inglenook and a marble hearth dating to circa 1840 in the parlour.
