Description
This is a group of three cottages located on West Wratting Road, Balsham. The cottages were built in the late 17th and 18th centuries, with an extension added in the mid-19th century. They are timber-framed, with rendered walls and tiled roofs. A central stack rises from the ridge. The cottages originally functioned as a single dwelling, later subdivided, and now comprise three separate homes.
The original cottages are one storey and have an attic, featuring two dormers. The front has two ground floor windows, one with a 19th-century casement. There are also two doorways; the doorway to number 3 features a doorcase dating from around 1840, complete with a door hood supported by shaped brackets. The door itself, also of the same date, has two glazed upper panels. A boarded door serves number 1.
A mid-19th century extension projects from the north end on the east side. This section has rendered walls and a slate roof, with a side stack. The extension is two storeys high, and features pointed arches above two first-floor casement windows. A doorway is located within a small porch in the angle of the extension.
