Description

This is a mid-17th century and early 18th century cottage located on the High Street in Cottenham. The original structure is timber-framed and was later encased in narrow gault brick using an English bond, with red brick details for the quoins. Some timber framing is applied to the gable ends. The roof is a combination of original thatched reed and tile covering, featuring an original ridge stack. The initial plan consisted of three bays and a lobby entry, although the original doorway has been sealed and the current doorway is located at the rear of the building. The cottage has one storey plus an attic, and incorporates two dormers. Two window openings retain original segmental arches, now containing three-light casement windows dating from the mid to late 19th century. Two further window openings are of a later date. The interior has not been inspected.
