Description
29 High Street is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, which was extended by one bay to the right in the 18th century. It features a rendered timber frame with a thatched roof made of long straw and a grey gault brick ridge stack. The building consists of four bays and follows a lobby entry plan, with one storey and an attic. There are two gabled dormers and four windows, including one three-light horizontal sliding sash and a casement window with leaded lights. The doorway is located in its original position opposite the stack.
Inside, the timber framing is exposed, showcasing straight bracing and joists laid on edge. The original three-bay plan includes an inglenook fireplace in the centre bay and a smaller hearth abutting the parlour on the right. The floors are supported by clamps, and the roof features clasped side purlin construction. The first floor is open to the roof, and part of the 18th-century bay is single storey.
