Description
Cudworth Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1647, located on the northwest side of High Street in Great Wilbraham. The building features timber framing that is rendered, with a steeply pitched roof made of long straw and a grey gault brick ridge stack as well as an end stack. The original design consists of three bays with a lobby entry. It is two storeys high and has four windows on the first floor, three of which are horizontal sliding sashes. The ground floor has three similar shuttered windows and two boarded doors, one located opposite the stack.
Inside, the cottage reveals exposed framing and stop-chamfered main beams. There are inglenooks that abut, and on the first floor, two rooms are open to the roof. The cottage is historically linked to Reverend Ralph Cudworth, who served as the Curate of Great Wilbraham from around 1647. A bay was added to the left side of the cottage in the mid-20th century.
