Kennel Farmhouse 13/112 II
House, mid-late C16 with late C19 addition to rear. Restored 1970s. Rendered timber frame with steeply pitched roof now of cement tiles with C19 grey gault brick upper courses to an original clear red brick ridge stack. End stack added to High Street end, late C19. Original plan of four bays in single range, with parlour to High Street and cross-passage between parlour and hall. Two storeys with gable end to High Street jettied at first floor. The jetty beam, although now obscured, is carved with folded leaf ornament. Three horizontal sliding sashes at first floor and two shuttered hung sashes of sixteen panes each at ground floor on either side of blocked doorway to the cross-passage. Late C19 addition of grey gault brick, parallel and at rear of the C16 house. Two storeys. Main doorway now in gable end of C19 addition. Interior: The parlour has main beam with folded leaf moulding and half-round roll moulding to the joists. The cross-passage is now incorporated into the parlour and the site of the partition wall or screen can be seen in the mortices in one of the joists. At first floor there is a sealed four light original window with diamond mullions. Curved downward bracing in the wall frame. The roof is of clasped side purl in construction of substantial scantling with curved wind bracing between the principals and purlin. R.C.H.M: Record card
