Description
The Carpenters Arms is a cottage that has been converted into a public house, dating from the late 17th century, with a 19th-century addition on the left side and a restored rear. The building features a timber frame that is cased in brick and painted, topped with a steeply pitched roof now covered in slates. It has an original grey gault brick ridge stack and a 19th-century end stack. The front has three horizontal sliding sash windows with their heads flush with the eaves. On the ground floor, there are three windows, including two hung sashes with sixteen panes each and one horizontal sliding sash. The entrance is through a lobby. The adjoining 19th-century addition is made of painted brick with a red pantile roof and a small ridge stack, and it has two storeys with two windows on both the first and ground floors. There is a cartway opening on the left side. Inside the public house, there are abutting inglenooks, with the larger one located in the center room, while the other is made of clunch rubble and brick.
