Description
This milestone, located about 400 yards north of the crossroads on the west side of Cambridge Road, dates back to 1730. It is made of stone and painted white, featuring a square shape with a domed top. The milestone has black Roman lettering and numerals. Above the inscription, which reads "VI MILES TO CAMBRIDGE A.D. MDCCXXX," is the shield of arms of Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, along with a hand that has a pointing finger. This milestone is one of those established under a trust created from a bequest by Dr. Mowse, who was the Master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, from 1552 to 1553, intended for the maintenance of highways in the Cambridge area.
