Description

This milestone, located near Dairy Farmhouse on Newton Fowlmere Road, dates back to 1730. It is made of stone, painted white with black lettering and Roman numerals. The milestone has a square shape with a domed top. It features the shield of arms of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, above the inscription "VII MILES TO CAMBRIDGE A.D. MDCCXXX" along with a hand pointing in the direction of Cambridge. This milestone is one of those established under a trust created from a bequest by Dr. Mowse, who was the Master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, from 1562 to 1563, intended for the maintenance of highways in and around Cambridge.
