Description

This is an early 19th-century house with a boundary wall, situated on Newton Town Street. The house is constructed of clunch, which has been stuccoed and incised to resemble ashlar masonry, with a possible earlier red brick plinth. Sections of later timber framing are visible in a rear wall. It has a hipped, tiled roof and end and ridge stacks made of gault brick. The building follows an L-shaped plan, extending over two storeys, with attics and cellars. The front has a range of three hung sashes with twelve panes each, while two ground floor windows feature hung sashes with fifteen panes and original panelled shutters. Later 19th-century shutters are found at the first floor. A flight of steps, flanked by an original iron balustrade, leads up to the doorway, which has a reeded doorcase. Inside, there is an open-string staircase with square section balusters and a moulded rail. One room retains an original white marble fireplace. The listing also includes a dressed clunch boundary wall on the north east side of the property.
