Description

The mausoleum located south of St Margaret's Church was built in 1922 for Sir Charles Walston of Newton Hall by Ambrose Paynter. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a conical slate roof. The building has a D-plan shape and includes a curved entrance adorned with elaborate detached, fluted Ionic columns. The central entrance consists of six-panel double doors with a decorative overlight, all set within a finely moulded ashlar surround that is topped by a lion's head mask and a decorative frieze.
