Description
The barn at Top Farm dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of dressed clunch on a red brick plinth, with red brick upper courses at the eaves height and on the gable ends. The roof is half-hipped and covered with plain tiles, featuring a dentil eaves cornice similar to that of the Queens Head Public House on Fowlmere Road in Newton. The barn has five bays and includes a mid-strey on the south side, along with a large doorway on the north side. The mid-strey is also late 17th century, made of dressed clunch and red brick. Inside, the queen post roof has arched bracing between the arcade posts and tie beams, along with a double row of staggered butt purlins.
