Description
No. 6 Coach House Lane is a house built around 1700, with its roof raised around 1720 and a rear wing added in the early 19th century. The main part of the house is constructed of red brick in English bond, and it features a plain tiled roof that is hipped to the south with a gablet. It has an original dentil eaves cornice, similar to that of the Queens Head Public House and Barn at Top Farm. The house is two storeys tall, with the main elevation facing east. Originally, there were four windows with segmental arches, but these are now blocked. There was also a central doorway. The rear wing, added in the early 19th century, is made of clay bat on a brick plinth, with roughcast and plaster rendered walls, and it is also two storeys high. The doorway now leads to this rear range. The interior has not been seen. It is believed that this house served as the coachman's residence for the Manor Farmhouse on Town Street, Newton, which has since been demolished.
