Description
Milestone located at the junction of the A505 and B1368, dating from 1731. It is made of stone, painted white with black lettering and Roman numerals. The milestone has a domed top and is diamond-shaped. The shield of arms of Trinity Hall, Cambridge is displayed above the inscription indicating it is XI miles to Cambridge, along with two hands with pointing fingers and the date A.D. MD CCXXXI. Another face features a hand with a pointing finger above the inscription to Royston, and below it, another hand with a pointing finger and the inscription to Whittlesford. This milestone is one of those established under a trust fund created from a bequest by Dr. Mowse, who was the Master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge from 1552 to 1553, intended for the maintenance of highways in and around Cambridge.
