Description
Perks Close is a late 15th or early 16th century cottage, with alterations dating to the late 17th century and more recent restoration work. It is timber-framed and partly plastered, with thatched roofs that are half-hipped to the right-hand side. A rectangular red brick ridge stack is located to the right of the junction with a jettied cross wing to the left. The cottage was originally rectangular in plan, with a single-story open hall and a two-story cross wing of two timber-framed bays. The main entrance is situated on the rear elevation, and the front of the building has two ground floor casement windows and two first floor windows on the cross wing, along with one eyebrow dormer window. Inside, the hall features a cross beam with a large peg projecting above a window. The hall also has two large fireplaces with mantel beams, and a cross beam with quarter-round moulding. The original medieval roof was removed, although parts of the open roof trusses remain incorporated into the north and south walls.
