Description
The Green is a house dating from around 1700, possibly built for Peter Wedd. It features a rear wing that has been altered, along with additional back ranges. The building is timber-framed with panelled roughcast plaster on the main elevation and painted brick. It has a plain tiled roof and large red brick gable end stacks with rebuilt cornices. The house is two storeys high with attics and has five symmetrical bays. There is a moulded wooden eaves cornice with modillions. The central doorway is framed by rusticated plaster pilasters and a frieze decorated with fluted panels and a dentil enriched cornice. The glazed door has lower raised and fielded panels. On the ground floor, there are four flush-framed twelve-paned hung sash windows with shutters, and five similar windows on the first floor. Additionally, there are three hipped dormer windows. The interior has been altered in the 19th century and later, including an open hearth in the north-east room and a fine imported early 18th-century chimney piece. A 20th-century staircase is also present.
