Description
The Fowlmere War Memorial is a stone cross located in the center of the village at the junction of London Road and High Street. It features a foliate cross atop a tapering square shaft, which rises from a plinth on a two-stepped base. The lower part of the cross shaft is inscribed on three sides.
On one side, it reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PIOUS MEMORY OF OUR FOWLMERE MEN (NAMES) WHO FELL IN BATTLE DURING THE GREAT WAR, 1914 - 1918 HE THAT LOSETH THIS LIFE FOR MY SAKE SHALL FIND IT."
The second side states: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PIOUS MEMORY OF OUR FOWLMERE MEN 1914 - 1918 (NAMES)."
The third side commemorates: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PIOUS MEMORY OF OUR FOWLMERE MEN 1939 - 1945 (NAMES)."
The memorial lists eleven names of those who died in the First World War and two from the Second World War, with one additional name added in 2000.
