Description
The Stretton Sugwas War Memorial is a First World War memorial with later additions, located prominently by the roadside on the A438 to the south of Stretton Sugwas. It features a stone Latin cross atop a tapering octagonal shaft, which stands on a square plinth with a two-stepped octagonal base.
The main inscription, carved in incised lettering on the plinth, reads on the south-east face: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1919." The south-west face lists five names.
An additional inscription on the upper step of the base states on the south-east face: "AND IN 1939–1945," while the south-west face lists three names. There is also a further inscription commemorating one parishioner who died in the Korean War.
