Description

Brook Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 16th century, with alterations and rebuilding occurring in the mid to late 17th century, and extensions added in the late 19th century. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a red brick rear wing that is integrated with the main structure on the south elevation through cased red brick over the timber frame. It has plain tiled roofs and two rectangular stacks positioned behind the ridge, along with rear stacks.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic, and it has a lower two-storey range from the original 16th-century building on the left side, while the right side has the extended rear wing, creating a long L-plan. On the west elevation, there is a coved plastered eaves cornice on the right-hand range, which includes a gabled lean-to porch with an entrance featuring a panelled door. The panelled architrave and hood with shaped brackets from this doorway have been relocated, possibly to their original lobby entry position on the left. The ground floor has four 20th-century casement windows, and there are three casement windows on the first floor.

Inside, the left-hand 16th-century range consists of two timber-framed bays, with the ground floor frame showing grooves, possibly for boards, and a chamfered and stopped square-sectioned crown post over the central truss. Originally unheated, this area may have served as a warehouse or floored barn, similar to the Old Manor House. The main range and rear wing feature a pine frame and possibly a reused late 16th-century floor frame, with heavily roll-moulded cross beams and two relined fireplaces.
