Description

This milestone, located at Hauxton Mill Bridge, dates back to 1729. It is made of stone and is painted white, featuring a square shape with a domed top. The milestone has black painted Roman lettering and displays the shield of arms of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, above the inscription "IIII miles to Cambridge A.D. MDCCXXIX" along with a hand pointing finger. It is one of the milestones established under a trust created from a bequest by Dr. Mouse, who was the Master of Trinity Hall, Cambridge, in 1552-3, intended for the maintenance of highways in and around Cambridge.
