Description

  1. SOUTH STREET 1590 Nos 1 and 3 (King's Head Hotel) TL l860 1/29 9.6.71. II GV

  2. Late C18, altered earlier C19. 2 storeys and dormers. Formerly double-fronted with 4 windows. Modern tiled roof; flat-topped dormers with cornices. Painted brick with plain stucco 1st floor band. Fluted band below small eaves cornice. Flush framed sash windows of 3 lights, but 2 reduced in size, ground floor windows with simplified stucco voussoirs. No 1 with good mid C19 shopfront with pilasters carrying entablature; shop window with small panes and panelled dado; shop doorway with arcaded fenestration and fanlight. No 3 doorway with bracketted hood. Carriageway at south end with double panelled doors. Wrought iron signboard over doorway. At rear of No 1. Half-timbered 2 storey wing. Painted brick nogging. Ground floor windows with margin light, 1st floor Yorkshire casements.

Nos 1, 3, 11, 13, Smithy and Stables at rear of Nos 15 and 17 and No 19 form a group with No 46 Market Street.
