Description
No. 44 Market Square is a building dating from 1590, with later alterations from the 18th century. It is two storeys high and features cellars and hipped dormers. The building has two windows and a modern tile roof. The exterior is made of painted brick, with a plain stucco band below the eaves and quoins rising up the corners. The mid-19th century shopfront includes pilasters that support an entablature with a projecting window. The first floor has a recessed sash window with glazing bars and a splayed bay window above the shopfront. There is a carriageway at the west end topped with a cornice-head. Nos. 16 to 46 (even) form a group with this building.
