Description

Number 19, which incorporates the former numbers 1 and 2 Brook Street, dates to the 18th century and has been altered since its original construction. It is a two-storey building with an irregular facade featuring a splayed corner. The roof is tiled. The rear of the building is half-timbered. The street facade is of painted brick (originally number 1), and the first floor is roughcast stucco with a cavetto eaves cornice; the first floor of the former number 2 features Yorkshire casements. The ground floor has been altered. Former number 2 is the last remaining Poor Law House. The building is included on the list for group value, relating to nearby buildings on South Street, the Smithy and Stables at the rear of numbers 15 and 17, and number 46 Market Street, as well as numbers 3A, 3B and 5 Brook Street.
