Description

Nos 40 and 42 on Market Square are buildings with origins dating back to the 17th century, although their front was remodeled in the 18th century. They stand three storeys tall with a gabled front and consist of four bays featuring plain bargeboards and five windows. The exterior is half-timbered with a plastered, colour-washed front and rusticated quoins. The windows are square-headed and architraved, with rusticated voussoirs, exposed boxing, and some glazing bars. There is a central carriage entrance that is flanked by modern shopfronts. At the rear, the buildings have a courtyard plan with half-timbered and brick ranges, brick nogging, and plastered frontages. Nos 16 to 46 (even) form a group with these buildings.
