Description
Brook House is an early 18th-century, two-storey building located on the north side of Brook Street. It features a double front with seven windows and a tiled hipped roof, complemented by a wooden eaves cornice with simplified modillions. The façade is made of red brick, highlighted by a moulded brick band at the first-floor level. The sash windows are slightly recessed and have gauged flat brick arches, architraves, exposed boxing, and most include glazing bars. The entrance has a wooden doorcase with reeded pilasters that support an entablature, along with panelled reveals and soffit, and a panelled door, which is accessed by stone steps. The building retains its original brick chimney stacks and includes some well-preserved panelled rooms and fireplaces. Inside, there is an open staircase featuring columned newels, twisted balusters, and carved brackets on the treads. Brook House, along with Nos 7 to 11 (odd), the walls, railings, and gates, form a cohesive group.
