Description

A late 18th-century and early 19th-century smithy and stables, located at the rear of numbers 15 and 17. The building comprises a blacksmith's shop at the south end, with stables and workshops to the north. It is a two-story structure with an irregular frontage. The ground floor is built of multi-coloured stock brick, while the first floor is timber framed and weatherboarded. The roof is old tiling, with patches of asbestos and corrugated iron sheets. The windows have pegged oak frames, fixed lights, and small panes of glass. The doorways have been altered. The blacksmith's shop retains a cobble and brick floor setts, along with original hearths, bellows, and a full set of farriery equipment. The building is included on the list for the integrity of the blacksmith's shop. It forms a group with numbers 1, 3, 11, 13, the smithy and stables at the rear of numbers 15 and 17, and number 19, as well as number 46 Market Street.
