Description
The Stores is a Grade II listed building that was originally a 17th-century farmhouse. It features a three-unit plan, constructed with timber framing and plaster, and has a continuous jetty underbuilt in painted brick. The roof is thatched and partly plain tiled, with a half-hipped design on the south side. A large late 17th-century red brick chimney stack with a recessed panel is present, along with a 19th-century stack to the south.
The building has three gabled dormer windows with casements and four ground floor windows, including one three-light hung sash window with glazing bars. There are two 19th-century doors, each with four panels, and one plank door located on the north side. Inside, the building features a sealed inglenook hearth and ceiling beams that have ovolo-moulding. Historically, The Stores served as a tailor's shop and was also the first post office in the area.
