Description
Charlwood Park Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed building located on Horley Road. This late 15th-century open hall was refaced and re-roofed in the early 17th century when a jettied wing was added to the west, transforming it into a continuous jetty house. The farmhouse has two storeys and attics, with a base made of Charlwood stone. The ground floor features timber framing with painted brick infilling, retaining some early 17th-century close-studding in the parlour wing at the south end. The first floor is hung with plain and painted tiles and overhangs on a moulded bressummer. The roof is tiled and includes a 17th-century brick chimney stack. There are four gables, with the southernmost gables overhanging on moulded brackets, and a modern gable above the porch, which is jettied on the first floor like the rest of the front. The farmhouse has four casement windows and an original doorcase in the porch with chamfered architraves. Inside, the building features a crown post in the jettied parlour wing and moulded beams with stop chamfers.
