Description
Hookwood House is a large 17th century timber-framed house with four bays, standing two storeys high with attics. The house features timber framing with red brick infilling, although it has been largely refaced with red brick on the ground floor and diamond-shaped tiles above. There is evidence of an overhang on the south front, and the north front has two gabled projections. The roof is tiled and includes two dormers, along with a clustered chimneystack from the 17th century. The house has three casement windows and a doorcase with a modern gabled porch above. The gable end displays a framed timber pattern with sinuous braces, and there is a stair turret at the rear that rises through an outshot.
An attached 18th century red brick garden wall features two brick piers and an 18th century wrought iron gate with an overthrow. The Saunders family occupied the house from the 17th century until 1909.
