Description

Manor Farmhouse is a late 17th century farmhouse that is timber framed and plastered, featuring two parallel rear wings and a stair turret. An earlier timber framed building is incorporated into the current structure up to the first floor level. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a hipped design supported by butt-purlins. The house has three large red brick chimney stacks and consists of two storeys with attics. It has a moulded wooden eaves cornice, three hipped dormer windows on the north facade, and three large 19th century hung sash windows on the first floor, along with five ground floor hung sash windows that have glazing bars. The main entrance, facing east, features an open porch with a flat canopy, a moulded doorcase flanked by plain pilasters, and a half-glazed 19th century door. Inside, there are bolection moulded chimney pieces at the corner fireplaces, a large inglenook hearth in the kitchen, moulded cornices, and stop-chamfered ceiling beams. The closed string pine staircase has turned balusters. The farmhouse may have been built by the Throckmortons, Lords of the Manor. A moat in the grounds possibly marks the site of an earlier manor house, and a large carved stone serves as a mounting block beside the main entrance.
