Description

Walden Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-18th century, located on the west side of Main Street, Kings Ripton. The main part of the house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a band of reused coursed limestone above the plinth. It has a plain tiled roof with parapets on kneelers and flush end stacks; the southern stack has been rebuilt above the ridge. Three hipped dormers, likely original, are visible in the attic, though the windows within are later. Flat arches feature over three first-floor horizontal sliding sash windows; these outer openings are larger. The ground floor has two similar windows, one a modern casement, the other a hung sash with a lowered sill. The central doorway is topped by a 19th-century hood supported on scroll brackets, with a plain cornice.

A contemporary wing, possibly originally used as a kitchen, adjoins the main house to the north. This wing is also of red brick, with some 19th-century gault brick used in the north gable. It shares the limestone band above the plinth but has a lower ridge and eaves height with a plain tiled roof. This wing features one horizontal sliding sash window on the first floor and a hung sash window on the ground floor.

An outbuilding at the rear is contemporary with the farmhouse, built of red brick with a pantiled roof and tumbled gable end parapets. A stack has been removed, and there is a hung sash window in the gable end.
