Description
This is a pair of cottages, originally built as one, dating from the late 17th century and extended to the east in the early 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed, with roughcast and plaster rendering, and feature a thatched roof. There is a shared red brick ridge stack, with gault brick above it, and an early 19th-century projecting end stack at the east end. The building has a single range plan consisting of three bays and a lobby entry. The bay at the east end was added in the early 19th century, creating a separate dwelling alongside the adjoining bay of the original cottage. The cottages are two storeys high, with four early to mid-20th-century metal frame casement windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are two doorways, including one leading to the lobby entry, and a further doorway that is now blocked, suggesting that the cottage may have been divided into three dwellings at one time. There are also bathroom extensions from around the 1920s to 1930s at the rear, which are thatched. The interior of one of the cottages features upward bracing to the tie beam and a clasped side purlin roof, which has been partly rebuilt. There are back-to-back inglenook hearths, each with a bread oven.
