Description

The Thatched House, originally a pair of cottages, dates to the late 18th century with extensions added in the 19th century. The building is timber-framed, with rendered walls and a hipped thatched roof, featuring a shared red brick stack. It is two storeys high, with modern casement windows in enlarged openings on both the first and ground floors. A doorway leads to a lobby opposite the stack. A contemporary outshut extends from the rear, now incorporating two dormers in the roof. 19th-century lean-to additions are present at each end, constructed with timber frames and pantiled roofs. Inside, small, abutting principal hearths are found in each cottage, accompanied by 19th-century cupboards, one retaining original hinges. Each cottage initially comprised a single ground-floor room with an outshut at the rear; the cottage at the south east end had a hearth within its outshut.
