Description

Chestnut Cottage is a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century, with an extension added at the west end in the 18th century. The cottages are timber framed, rendered, and have a half hipped long straw thatch roof, featuring two gault brick ridge stacks. They are positioned end to the road and consist of one storey and an attic. The building has five dormers, two of which have thatched gables and three with tiled surrounds. The ground floor includes six modern casement windows and two doorways set in porches. The late 18th-century extension to the west is also timber framed, rendered, and has a long straw thatch roof, with modern window fittings. The framing is slender.

Inside No 59, the layout consists of three bays, with a red brick inglenook and a stop-chamfered main beam. The substantial wall framing features downward bracing and jowled heads to the posts. A smaller red brick hearth in No 59 indicates a subdivision of the space.
