Description

The entrance gates and piers at the west entrance to Wimpole Hall were built in 1851, designed by H E Kendall. They feature wrought iron gates and railings, along with Portland limestone piers and a dwarf wall. The gates are two-stage, adorned with a crested overthrow that includes interlaced initials, coronets, scrolls, and acanthus leaf motifs. The piers have panelled sides and responds, topped with an entablature that is supported by figures holding shields of arms belonging to the Earls of Hardwicke. Flanking the entrance are quadrants, each consisting of three bays and two half bays, separated by a stone pier. The return wall facing the street is constructed from Hitch bricks.
